One of the best ways to understand the buying and merchandising strategies at BJ’s, Costco and Sam’s Club is to analyze the changes and trends in all club departments. The entire list of club departments is divided into four main groups: Softlines, HBA, Office and Alcohol; Automotive, Home Goods, Majors and Sundries; Dry Grocery and Candy and Frozen, Refrigerated and Perishable.
This white paper provides the most recent detailed analysis of each department group listed above. Each department is analyzed, approximately, every 18 months. The dry grocery and candy analysis was done in July, 2008. The automotive, home goods, majors and sundries analysis was done in August, 2008. The perishable analysis was done in May and June, 2009. The softlines, HBA, office and alcohol analysis was done in May and September, 2009.
